The Mourning of Imagination

I used to live in a land
In which dreams were but a whisper away
A fantastic world of beginnings
Where innocence went out to play.

A canvas untouched by the darkness
Where colors were named by the light
A garden of infinite beauty
That bent to the artist's delight.

A page of unyielding adventure
Where heroes were made of mere men
A place of such pure innovation
That flowed from the tip of a pen.

A symphony of majestic melodies
That bade me to move and to love
Where harmony dwelt with creation
And danced upon clouds up above

Now my dreams are another year older
And my vision has dimmed to be sure
The colors are drowning in sorrow
The battle has lost its allure.

The music has faded to silence
My heart beats with its rhythm no more
Afraid to move in the darkness
Fearing what life has in store.

Return me to that place I plead
Where dreams are but a whisper away
That fantastic world of beginnings
Where innocence goes out to play.

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?" (Genesis 3:8-9)

In God you trust?

As I watched the events of last nights historic election unfold I became increasingly concerned. Not about the fate of our country, or concern over who was elected, but about the angry, fear-filled comments by those who claim to follow Christ. Rather than submit to and pray for those who lead, which by the way is what God commands (Read Romans 13), many have simply become messengers of gloom and doom.

My message to all of you is:

1.) Don't worry, it's sinful. God's got this... He's still in control. He's not worried, why should you be?

2.) If the world is going "to hell in a hand-basket" and "Obama is the Anti-Christ" as some of you have so carelessly stated, do you honestly think you could change what is inevitable? And, why wouldn't you want such things to happen, because that would mean that we are closer to the return of Christ...I know, I know... God forbid that actually happen (note my light sarcasm).

3.) If you're concerned about the fate of those that are far from God, you should be... You should've always been. What's changed? Love God, love people and pursue the purpose that He has called you to.

So, what do the results of this election mean for us as followers of Christ? Nothing…the church must continue on in its purpose “to love God,” to “love (its) neighbor,” and “make disciples,” (which is a global mandate), regardless of what is happening politically in one country. Will the results of the election affect us? Perhaps. Will it change our purpose? It shouldn’t. Will it defeat us? Not a chance.

Stop whining and trust God.

Peace.
